I'm Invisible......(I Will Use This Power To Fight Crime)

This morning has been a bit of a roller coaster of emotions....nothing serious....but just some ups and downs. I am sure I feel this way often, being female and all! A precious friend of mine sent me an email with the link to a video. This video is called "The Invisible Woman". She referenced circumstances that we as mothers often face, when we tell our children to do something, and they act as if they didn't hear a word you said. You tell them to turn the TV down, nothing happens, you tell them to go brush their teeth, nothing happens, you tell them to stop fighting/arguing, but yet, they continue. You ask your spouse a question, no response, you tell him an entire story, and he responds, "I'm sorry, what?" AM I INVISIBLE TO YOU PEOPLE???

This woman continued with her story. A friend of hers went on a tour of Europe and brought her back a book about the great cathedrals there. She didn't really understand the gift, until she read the inscription on the inside. It said, "With great admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees."

Did you know that you can't name the names of the people who built the great cathedrals? The majority of the time, when you look for the names, it simply says, "builder unknown." These builders completed things not knowing that anyone would notice. She said there was even a story of one of the builders who was carving a tiny bird inside of a beam that would be covered over by a roof. And someone came up to him and said, "Why are you spending so much time on something no one will ever see?" and the builder replied, "Because God sees." They trusted that GOD saw everything. These builders gave their lives for a work that they would never even see finished. They made personal sacrifices for no credit at all. It is said that no great cathedrals will ever be built again because so few people are willing to sacrifice to that degree.

How often, as mothers, as wives, and as fathers, as husbands, do we feel invisible? As employees, we feel invisible. We feel like we give and give and get nothing in return, because no one even pays attention to what we do. I'm the worst at having a need for a 'pat on the back'. When I don't feel appreciated by others, I lose the desire to continue doing things at the degree that I've been doing things. I lose my fire.

So this little message really hit me like a ton of bricks today. That builder was willing to work for days on a tiny bird in a beam that a roof would cover, and no spectator would ever even see - and he did it simply because God sees. I realized today, though I've known the scripture "Servants, do what you're told by your earthly masters. And don't just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you'll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you're serving is Christ." (Colossians 3:23) I've always felt like it was directed specifically toward my job; I don't know why? But in all reality, it's in everything we do. And coming to this realization, a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders. The next time I ask myself, "Why are you doing this to yourself?? No one even cares!" I can then remember, GOD cares. GOD sees.

So to you who reads this, Remember that God sees what you are building. He sees the family you are holding together, he sees the marriage you are working so hard at, he sees the laundry you are doing, he sees the errands you are running, he sees you when you are disciplining your children, he sees you when you are getting up at 4 am just so you have some extra hours in your day to accomplish what is necessary, he sees you working so hard at your job....I could go on and on! The next time you are feeling invisible, just remember Colossians 3:23 - "Servants, do what you're told by your earthly masters. And don't just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you'll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you're serving is Christ."

Thanks for the daily inspiration, Bethany! I really needed a Biblical blog to follow. This is just what I needed to read today {as I am trying to cut corners in my house cleaning} and everyday at that!
